Earth Hour 2009 - The Countdown is ON

I was captured by an interesting article last year in January for 2 reasons.
(i) In 2007 an amazing event concerning our planet was orchestrated by Australia, my birth country. Lights went out and Sydney made headlines all over the world. It was happening again in 2008 and I wanted to participate. I was so excited, I emailed my friends and told them about it and that we had to participate. I invited friends to have a candlelit dinner at my house and the plans started to fly. Then, more people wanted to join our group, so the venue changed and we moved the event to my friend's home - Nicky & Michael....let me tell you, absolute sweethearts! What were we going to serve? Lorna, my fab gal, life long friends and we're family......I know was so amused with my excitement and well, she just loves a party and she's always there! I sent an email to Nicky with the web address for the Ontario Food Terminal. It's a fabulous website which informs you of what is in season and provides wonderful recipies. Nicky and I discussed the site's offers. We emailed back and forth, staying true to the event and taking it one step further. Every aspect of the meal would come from the earth, from our local farmers. We would support only local providers of produce purchased. We stayed on track and 99% of our meal absolutely came from our local farmers. The various wines, red and white were also Canadian. The only U.S. produce item purchased was lettuce.......it's Canada people.....no lettuce happening in March during winter!
20 people, friends and friends of friends came together. The lights went off. We sat at a most beautiful table seating all 20 of us. The entire house was lit with candles. Neighbours turned off their lights, and can I say, it was one of the most beautiful unlit nights I've ever experienced in my life. We had a great time. It was unbelieveable! And, we partied with 50,000,000 others globally! What a party!
ii) The second reason I was captured by the article......it was in the newspaper. It was about time a newspaper wrote something GOOD!
